Moving to a new home can be very stressful, especially when it’s time to move because there are so many little things that you need to remember. So here’s a checklist of all the last minute duties that need to get done.
As hard as it is to get rid of things, sometimes it’s necessary, especially when moving. You don’t want to be grabbing all of your useless items from one house to another – you want a fresh start without clutter. You can do this by sorting through all of your items and figuring out what you really need.
Confirm the date.
One of the most important things you need to do is confirm the date. You may already think you know, but you can never be too sure. Have another look at your calendar and call the removal company to confirm that they have the same date, as well as time.
Children’s school start date.
If you have children, you will need to arrange the date for when they start their new school (if they have had to move.) Make sure that all of their files have been transferred and they have their books and all other appropriate equipment. Ideally, you would want the start date to be on a Monday as it will just make everything a whole lot easier for them and their new teachers too.
When moving into your new home, you may want to change your locks. Now, this isn’t an obligation, but you might feel a little safer if you know that brand new locks are on your house. All you need to do for this is call a locksmith, and they will change them. This will give you peace of mind because you’ll know that only you has the key.
Frozen Food first.
If you have frozen food left in your freezers before you move, start eating these things first. This will not only stop you from wasting the food you have, but dramatically reduce how much food you have to take with you on your move.
Measure your new home.
A lot of people forget about doing this, but it is a really important one. Before you plan on getting any new furniture, make sure you measure your new home first! It’s no good bringing your original items or buying new ones just to realize they don’t fit in the area at all.
Pack your suitcase.
Make a suitcase that has all of your essentials for the next few days of your move. This means things like work clothes, underwear, and hygiene products. By doing this, you won’t have to drive yourself crazy looking through all different boxes trying to find the toothpaste.
Change of address.
Make sure that you have changed your new address and let all the important people know. This means contacting the postal services, the doctors, and any other services that will need to be informed of your move.
Once you are definite about your move, you can call in the expert interior designer to help you get started on making you new house a home.
Now you have your last minute checklist. Go through all these things and see what else needs to be done, then you can cross them off as you go.
