A lot of people make mistakes when it comes to their interior design. They might spend thousands on creating a great look, but come away displeased with the results. Why does this happen? In many cases, it actually comes down to clutter. De-cluttering your home will make a huge amount of difference in terms of its overall perception. And, you might not even realize it, but we all fall prey to household clutter in some form or another. These are five examples that are particularly common.
Broken & Outdated Technology
Every two years, you’re probably gifted with a brand-new phone as part of your contract. What happens to the old one? It gets put in a drawer somewhere, causing clutter over time. Instead of doing that, why not look to sell your old phone online? Bigger pieces of tech like broken monitors and old DVD players also contribute to this. There are people out there that are willing to pay for broken tech in some cases, so look them up!
We as humans are far too easily tempted by anything that claims to be free. We’ll take it, whether it’s lipstick holders or free stickers. Unfortunately, it’s very rare that we actually put these things to good use. We’ll marvel at them for five minutes-or-so, and then they end up in the corner of the house somewhere. It’s better to resist the temptation entirely, rather than ending up with masses of clutter.
You know that shed you designed in the backyard a few years ago? You remember how it was supposed to be used to store all your important gardening equipment? Now, it’s filled with broken washing machines and old mattresses. It’s all the stuff that is too big to get rid of without going the extra mile. But, is that really the case? You could try a rubbish collection service to get rid of things like mattresses, taking the task out of your hands. See – it isn’t that difficult, is it?!
So-Called ‘Sentimental’ Clutter
Ah, yes. Your clutter is all the sentimental stuff that you simply can’t get rid of under any circumstances. Listen; I understand the desire to keep sentimental items. I’ve got plenty of them in my home as it is. But, there’s a difference between sentimental and items you think are sentimental. If you haven’t shown any interest in them for the past ten years, it’s time to get rid. If you really cared all that much, you wouldn’t let them turn into clutter.
Magazines & Newspapers
It’s very rare that we want to keep magazines on a permanent basis. But, so many of us do, finding them in corners of our house years later. Why?! The same goes for newspapers, which many of us are buying on a daily basis. They end up all over the place, being ripped apart by the dog and strewn across the house. Get into the habit of ditching this reading material before it turns into needless clutter. You’ll notice a big difference.
